The Priority of Prayer

The Priority of Prayer

James 5:13-20

Call to Worship: Psalm 95 (adapted)

Leader: If today we hear God’s voice in our hearts, we must follow it.

People: If today we hear God’s voice in our hearts, we must follow it.

Leader: Come everyone, let’s sing to the Lord. Let us tell the world that God has saved us.   Let us sing songs of praise to Him.

People: If today we hear God’s voice in our hearts, we must follow it.

Leader: Come, let us bow down our heads and pray to God. Let us kneel before the God who made us. He is our God. We are His people. He loves us.

People: If today we hear God’s voice in our hearts, we must follow it.

Leader: Today if you hear God’s voice in your hearts, follow it.

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:3-11 (NLT, selections)

3All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. [. . .]  8We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through [. . .]  We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. 9[. . .] But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. 10[. . .] We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. 11And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.
