Abundance Or Scarcity?

Philippians 4:10-23 We spend much of our lives consumed by what we lack and defined by what we don’t have. Not so Paul! Whether he ‘has’ or ‘has not’, Paul lives in the abundance of God’s provision. So as we come to the end of this letter (written from a Roman prison), we too must ask ourselves – are we living in the fullness of God’s abundant supply or the lack of our present needs?

Practice Makes Perfect

Philippians 4:8-9 Practice makes perfect – we all know that! But just what exactly are we supposed to be practicing? And how do we know? And what kind of ‘Perfect’ should we be aiming for anyways? Come join us as we explore these questions and more, as we continue in Paul’s letter to the Philippians.

Working Out The Outworkings

Philippians 4:1-7 Right Thinking leads to Right Living. Having addressed our mindset last week, Paul doesn’t stop there, for there must be an outworking of this Right Thinking. And so this week, we’ll see Paul explore some of the daily choices of our Right Living. What happens when we disagree? How about when life makes us anxious? And what does it look like to stand firm?

Upwards!

Philippians 3:12-21 We are a people of direction and that direction is Upwards! As we begin this new year and jump back into our series in Philippians, we will see Paul instruct us to forget what lies behind and to press on for the prize of the Upward Call of God. But what does that look like in a season when it feels like our entire lives have been placed on hold? And how do our life goals fit into this? The answers to these questions greatly depend on which future we’re living for. Come join us as we press on toward our goal – the Upward Call of God!

What is Love?

1 Corinthians 13 What is Love? It’s a question many ask, but few find an answer that will sustain them through all the messy realities of life. Paul’s words to the Corinthian church are that answer because Paul wrote them to a church who did not love each other. And although we often confine these words to areas where we feel love (reading them at weddings or hanging them in our family room), they actually have a much broader scope. Come join us as we discover (or rediscover) the Love that is big enough for any situation!

Shining Like Stars

Philippians 2:12-18 This week we’ll see Paul call the Philippian church to shine like stars in the midst of a twisted and broken world. It seems an overwhelming task until we realize that it is God at work in us who provides both the desire and the ability to do so. The call is, therefore, to participate in the work that God is doing in and through us. So what would it look like for us to shine like stars in our current circumstances?

Unity! Unity! Unity!

Philippians 2:1-4 As we return to Paul’s friendship letter to the Philippian church, we see Paul asking for just one thing from them – Unity! In an individualistic society, we highly value our right to our own opinion and we definitely don’t want to be brainwashed. So what is this Unity? Is it even possible? And if it is possible, is it even something we want?

This is Personal!

John 2:12-25 This week we see Jesus go from one celebration (a wedding) to another (Passover). But while He was willing to remain a guest at the wedding, Jesus is not willing to remain a ‘guest’ at the temple. It is, as Jesus says, “My Father’s house”. So what happens when God, in the person of Jesus Christ, shows up to His house of worship to find it has been turned into a house of business? Come and see!

Resurrection Power

1 Corinthians 15:50-58 Resurrection Power gives us the confidence to live ‘all out’ for Jesus, knowing that our faith is not in vain and death will not have the final say in our lives

We Beheld His Glory: The Word

John 1:1-5 How one begins a story says a lot about what that story will be about. In his gospel, John begins with the Word who ‘was’ before anything else came into being. Whose greatness is matched only by His love. And who is powerful enough to ensure that the Darkness will not overcome the Light and that Death will ultimately be defeated by Life. Come join us this Sunday as we begin our Advent series walking though John’s introduction to the story of the One who was both fully God and fully man, the Word who became flesh and dwelt amongst us.

In God We Trust?

Genesis 14. Last week, we saw Abraham choose peace over conflict and display his trust in God in the area of land, as he allowed Lot to choose first and choose the ‘better’ portion. This week, we will see Abraham drawn into conflict for the sake of Lot and continue to display his trust in God, this time in the area of possessions. Come join us as we consider what it looks like to walk ‘In Tracks Of Trust’ in the area of money and possessions.

Participation Value

One of our Family Values at PBCC is Participation In God’s Work. Key components of this value are that God invites us to participate in what He’s already doing and that it is indeed ultimately God’s work (and not ours). Ministry Fair is a great opportunity to see the many ways that God is already at work and to consider where God might be inviting you to participate. Lest you begin to feel pressure, participation is not limited to signing up to serve with a ministry, it’s also prayer support and hearing testimonies of what God has done. So come worship together, then enjoy some snacks as you ‘participate’ in our Ministry Fair and find out what God is doing through the various ministries at PBCC!
