God’s call to Abram in Genesis 12 is “GO!” Abram is told to leave everything that was familiar – his country, his people, his home and go where God would lead him. God assured Abram he would bless him so that he would be a blessing to others. Abram did what God told him to do – he went to Canaan. And he built an altar to the Lord to worship and commemorate God’s leading and faithfulness. Abram called upon the name of the Lord. Abram’s faith was growing, he was knowing the Lord more personally, recognizing his own dependence on Him.
We’ve heard the opposite of Abram. Rather than hearing “GO,” we’ve heard that throughout May we are called to “STAY.” Stay where all is familiar – don’t leave, stay with your household, certainly don’t leave the country. As those who call upon the name of the Lord, we’ve given Him lordship over our lives. We try to humbly surrender to His will in dependence on Him and trust His plans for us are good. We know it’s God’s nature to bless, to be faithful and gracious. Hard as it is, we will be obedient and stay through May and continue to offer the Lord our worship. Let’s pray that like He did with Abram, God will bless us so that we too can be a blessing to others.
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
