About our study: Who is this Jesus? Jesus was called the “Messiah,” the “anointed one”, or “king,” by all four Gospel writers. If He was a king, then His kingship was quite odd, without land, money, soldiers, or servants. When He rode into Jerusalem, shortly before He was killed, He was not carried like a dignitary, nor did He take on the role of a conquering king. His friends probably would have been overjoyed to see him gallop into town on a beautiful horse, yet He entered the city riding a donkey. Who then is this Jesus, whose kingdom was to be found not in the lands of the Middle East, but rather in the hearts of humanity? Certainly His message and the kind of kingdom He advocated were unusual, unexpected and upside-down.
The Gospel of Matthew will present a detailed picture of King Jesus for us and will invite us to “sync up” with Him and the way of life in His kingdom. Join us this year as we continue studying this extraordinary Gospel!
