Seeing Clearly Cultivating the Vision of God in a Confusing World Carolyn Hindmarsh, our speaker this year, has taught New Testament Greek at Regent College in Vancouver since 2007 and is presently working on a DM in spiritual direction at Fuller Seminary.
The PBCC Women’s Retreat returned to Mount Hermon February 9-11, 2018 with speaker Patti Pierce! Patti is the Founder and President of Wellspring as well as part of the leadership team of SoulCare, a retreat series for pastors and leaders. Patti’s theme was “Invitations From God”. Listen to the sessions here:
Our speaker, Carolyn Custis James, author of several books and president of WhitbyForum, spoke on the theme of “Recapturing God’s Vision for Women – Warrior or Princess”. View the Brochure.
Our speaker was Kay Morrison from who led us in a look at “A Peace that Surpasses Comprehension.”
Kay Morrison is a native Texan, who was raised in Dallas and graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In 1986 Kay married David and they now have four children ranging from 15 to 21 years old. Since 1998 Kay and her family have lived in Denver, Colorado. Kay has many years of experience with MOPS (Mother’s of Preschoolers) and teaches Adult Bible studies and speaks at retreats and worship services. Kay is a quilter, loves to knit, paint, read, cook – although not necessarily make dinner – watches way too much football and NASCAR and avoids cleaning her house. She came to PBCC last summer with Pat Harrison to share with us at our Family Fun Day and we’re excited to continue our relationship with her through our women’s retreat.
Our speaker was Kathy Christopher from Christian Assembly in Eagle Rock, California. The topic was “Authentic Freedom in a Broken World.”
“I feel like the poster child for God’s grace.” That pretty much sums up Kathy Christopher’s take on a life of faith as well as her heart for people. Through teaching, counseling and various leadership roles, Kathy’s heart and message always come back to this timeless truth: we are desperate for the grace of God and His grace is life changing. She particularly loves to see people catch a glimpse of God’s love and favor, whether that be in a teaching situation or one-on-one. Kathy and her family have been at Christian Assembly in the L.A. area for over 30 years and she has been on staff for 20 of those years. Her current role includes oversight of Women’s Opportunities and Partnership (membership classes). She also serves on the Management Team and the church’s teaching team. Kathy is a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary, having earned her Master of Divinity degree. Kathy has been married to Budd for 38 years. They have two children and three “fabulous” grandchildren.
We were thrilled to have Dana Harris, former PBCC’er and current New Testament Professor at Trinity Seminary, teach us.
Dana was born and raised in California, and became a Christian at a Billy Graham Crusade at age 15. While an undergraduate at Stanford University, she was a Young Life leader and active with college campus groups. After graduation, she was in our Peninsula Bible Church internship program for 2 years, where she delighted to study God’s word in depth and began a long-term love for Greek. She was also involved with junior high school ministry and tutoring immigrant Hispanic children. Dana has been involved in short-term missions in Mexico, Romania, the Czech Republic, and France. She is currently completing a Phd in NT at Trinity, and is a full-time instructor in the New Testament department at the seminary. Dana considers it a great joy to open God’s word for His people and see their growing delight in discovering Him through His word.
Victory over Anxiety: A talk by Erica Lawry Erica is a PBCC missionary who, with her husband Steve, teaches biblical couseling principles to students at Stanford.
More Lessons from June’s Lifetime: A talk by June McCuiston June and her husband Wlat have been at PBCC for over 34 years and June loves to share with women from the word of God, so bring your Bibles and enjoy hearing from this “Seasoned saint” who’s been walking with and serving the Lord for over 60 years.
Dr. Merilyn Copland attended and taught at PBCC in the 90’s and is currently professor of Old Testament and Archaeology at William Jessup University in Rocklin, California. She comes with four degrees from places as varied as San Francisco State University, Jerusalem University College, and the University of California at Berkeley. Her Ph.D. in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology and years of living and excavating in Israel give her a unique perspective for teaching the Bible, Greek, Hebrew, and archaeology and she brings a different perspective on the world of the Bible and the land where Jesus lived. She enjoys speaking to women across the U.S. at retreats and workshops, sharing from her “digging” into God’s Word.
Though her experiences as an archaeologist have been wonderful, she loves sharing the treasures discovered in watching God change her own heart and life. In recent years she has seen God work miracles in her own life bringing her through heartbreak to healing, learning to live expectantly and hopefully again.
Becky Harling shares God’s message of hope and healing as she creatively combines deep Biblical insight with her powerful testimony and the stories of other women. She is a gifted communicator and author, with a passion for seeing the Bible “come alive” in the hearts of women. Her love for the Lord, compassionate spirit, sense of humor and energetic style inspires women to draw closer to God.
Though Lynn Gibson currently resides in Spokane, Washington, she is a Los Altos native and attended our very own PBC for 20 years. She was part of Brian Morgan’s first junior high group and met her husband, Jeff, in John Hanneman’s singles group. Lynn has shepherded single women for nearly two decades with a passion to “encourage and equip, remind and refresh” them of Biblical truth. She has written a collection of letters to encourage singles which she hopes will soon be published called, “The Diamond I Wear is Within.” Lynn and Jeff have three children, ages 10, 13 and 16. She loves watching Gonzaga basketball, gardening and taking daily walks with her trusty ipod.
