Israel, the Church, and the Abrahamic Promises
Bernard Bell
7:00-9:00 pm, Mondays, starting Sept. 24, in Fellowship Hall.
God promised Abraham a seed and a land: he would make his descendants into a great nation, give them the land of Canaan for a home, and be their God. Paul wrote that all who belong to Christ, both Jew and Gentile, are children of Abraham and heirs according the promise. We will explore these promises and their fulfillment in the Old and New Testaments, and implications for today. There are many thorny issues here! What is the relationship between OT Israel, Christ, and the NT church? How are Gentiles grafted into the olive tree? Has the church superseded Israel? What is the modern state of Israel? Why is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict so intractable? What about Islam, the other Abrahamic faith? What is dispensationalism? There will be plenty of time for questions.
