The high school years are an interesting season in life for everyone; so many things go on at once. There are the academic and extracurricular pressures to be the best at everything, not to mention the social pressures of fitting in and finding one’s niche. Combining all these things on top of the reality of self-discovery and growth, particularly in the spiritual arena, it is no wonder many high school students feel “lost” from time to time in this four-year span.

Holy Broken is a group designed for the student that is juggling one, many, or all of these elements of life. We gather together, as a group, with a clear understanding that life is difficult. We are united by our common goal of fullfililng the Lord's instruction: “Be holy because I am holy,” but are mindful of the reality that, “We all, like sheep, have gone astray” (or will go astray). In a day and age where perfection seems to be the set standard, we choose to join together as the body of Christ, holy, because we are children of Jesus Christ, yet broken, because we are children of Adam. Everything we do together as a group has the sole purpose of building a community of individuals drawn together under this common understanding of being Holy Broken.

The main elements of this ministry are simple. Corporate worship takes place on Sunday mornings where fellowship, singing, and the spoken word are central.

Perhaps the key element of Holy Broken is Small Groups. These groups meet 3-4 times a month during the school year and play a critical role in the maturation (both spiritual and general) of the high school student. The main point of these groups is to form a mini-community of believers where the ups and downs of real life are explored. Having a “safe” environment to work through life is critical at any stage of life, yet it is probably most crucial during high school.

Another main element to this ministry is the mission trip to King City. The magic of a mission trip is seeing God work in, around, and through a group of broken individuals. It is, perhaps, the pinnacle of experiencing the beauty of being holy and broken at the same time. To see the omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God choose to use a bunch of broken people to accomplish his purposes is life changing indeed!

There is so much to life as a follower of Jesus Christ. The point of Holy Broken is to embrace that life and grow closer to our Creator as a member of a larger body and to experience what it is like to live life balancing between holiness and brokenness.
